psa

This is going to be short and sweet and hopefully helpful to someone, someday. It's also going to sound ridiculous. Bear with me.

If you have a dog, and you take your dog to the beach, and the dog gets swept into the ocean by a rogue wave ...

Do Not Go After The Dog.

I will tell you why.

You will die.

And your dog will live.

This happens several times a year where I live. Someone's out walking their dog on the beach, the dog gets swept into the ocean, the people jump in after the dog, and the only one who survives is THE DOG. Just happened yesterday, and it happened a few months ago, when THREE people from the same family died after trying to save their dog. Both dogs survived.

The cops and park rangers and stuff are always like: Well, we always tell people never to turn their back on the ocean. What they should also say is: Never try to save your dog. Your dog will ALWAYS save himself.

This has been your public service announcement for the day. Happy New Year and stay out of the damned ocean.

  3. Rogue wave? That's a real thing? I thought it was just the name of a band.

    1. I think the latest stories are calling them "sneaker waves," as in they sneak up on you.

  4. Same thing goes in rivers. I always imagine that the dog thinks the human is actually trying to kill them and so pushes them under.
